Greetings from Alpha Chi Chapter, Alpha State, Texas, of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Alpha Chi Chapter, Number 46, Area VII was organized March 10, 1934, by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas. We have just celebrated its 75th year with much fanfare. We were recognized with a Resolution read before the Texas Senate and proclamations from our three city councils. The year was spent reviewing and updating our history. Now as we look to the future we look forward to actualizing Alpha State President Dr. Vicki Davis' theme -- Advancing the Society: Believe, Engage, Learn, Lead. Alpha Chi is composed of active and retired teachers living in Burnet and Llano Counties. We have five regular meetings each year, held on the second Monday of the month in October, November, January, February and April, rotating among the three school districts. Three of these meetings, as decided by the Executive Committee, are dinner meetings. Local meetings in August and March help keep our chapter running smoothly. Our September meeting alternates between the Area VII Workshop and our chapter's own Yett Seminar. Our group consists of seventy-four truly exceptional women, covering a wide range of ages and life experiences. They are involved in many activities in our communities and bring this interest back to our chapter. We actively support, through contributions of time and resources, The Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center, Hill Country Children's Advocacy Center, and the Rainbow Room -- Burnet County Child Welfare Board. In keeping with the purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma, we award a Grant-in-Aid scholarship to a deserving future teacher, with the recipients chosen on a rotating basis from among our three communities. Programs at our meetings are informative and thought-provoking. Our own members provide many of them, while some are pulled in from community resources. The quality of our programs and the fellowship offered at our meetings have kept our monthly attendance at around fifty. Alpha Chi is proud to be a part of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International which promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. We were honored to receive both a PACE Award and an Annie Award at the 2009 State convention in Corpus Christi, tangible evidence of the way our members work together to achieve a common goal. This spirit of cooperation and sisterhood, so much a part of Delta Kappa Gamma, will help us meet the challenges facing educators today.
