 4-H Shooting Sports

The Burnet County 4-H Shooting Program through affiliation with the National 4-H Shooting Sports Organization, Texas 4-H Shooting Sports, USA Shooting Sports, Civilian Marksman Program, and the National Rifle Association, develops the positive, safe, and responsible use of firearms in a competitive environment. Activities of the program have the support of caring adult leaders specifically trained and selected because of their expertise and ability to work with youth.

The objectives of the program are numerous and include:

· Developing decision-making skills, teamwork, self-discipline, self-confidence, and problem solving.

· Promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior.

· Encourage an appreciation and understanding of our natural resources.

· Develop leadership skills

· Build character and willingness to assume citizenship responsibilities.

· Furnish enjoyable, positive relationships with peers and adult instructors

· Strengthen families through participation in lifelong recreational activities.

· Build awareness of related career opportunities.

Shooters are trained through a special curriculum developed by specialists as well as the many resources of Texas A & M University, the National Rifle Association, and USA Shooting Sports.  Shooters also are developed through the time, talent, and dedication of county extension agents and highly trained and qualified instructors.

4-H members have an opportunity to not only be safely and properly trained but also to test their marksmanship skills in county, district, regional, state, and competitive events. The level of competition does not stop there. Shooting sports are very popular as a NCAA collegiate sport as well as International Olympic Sport. Shooting sports and hunting are also a great form of recreation. Shooting sports are lifetime sports. Visit the Burnet County 4-H Web page for more information on Burnet County 4-H Programs.
