It is a privilege to welcome you to Alpha Chi Chapter, Alpha State, Texas, of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. We cordially invite you to make us one of your stops as you journey with Alpha State president JoAnn Brooks and view her Kaleidoscope of People, Passions, Possibilities.

Alpha Chi is composed of active and retired teachers living in Burnet and Llano Counties. Three towns, Burnet, Llano and Marble Falls, offer a variety of employment opportunities. Our proximity to Austin and the growth of distance learning offer even more. The beautiful Texas Hill Country makes us a desirable retirement location.

We have five regular meetings each year, held on the second Monday of the month in October, November, January, February and April, rotating among the three school districts. Three of these meetings, as decided by the Executive Committee, are dinner meetings. Local meetings in August and March help keep our chapter running smoothly. Our September meeting alternates between the Area VII Workshop and our chapter's own Yett Seminar.

Our group consists of ninety-five truly exceptional women, covering a wide range of ages and life experiences. They are involved in many activities in our communities and bring this interest back to our chapter. We actively support, through contributions of time and resources, CASA for the Highland Lakes Area, the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center and the Hill Country Children's Advocacy Center. And, in keeping with the purpose of Delta Kappa Gamma, we award a Grant-in-Aid scholarship to a deserving future teacher, with the recipient being chosen on a rotating basis from among our three communities.

Programs at our meetings are informative and thought-provoking. Our own members provide many of them, while some are pulled in from our communities. The quality of our programs and the fellowship offered at our meetings have kept our attendance at around sixty. We initiated six new members in the spring of 2007.

Alpha Chi is proud to be a part of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International which promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. We were honored to receive both a PACE award and an ANNIE at the State convention in Amarillo, tangible evidence of the way our members work together to achieve a common goal. This spirit of cooperation and sisterhood, so much a part of Delta Kappa Gamma, will help us meet the challenges facing educators today.
