2003Iona Ross passed away on January 25, 2003. She was born in Spicewood (Burnet county), graduated from Marble Falls High School and received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Southwest Texas State. She taught school in Burnet, Bertram, Johnson City, Freer and Killeen, and had been a life member of Delta Kappa Gamma since July, 1948. She transferred her membership to the Alpha Chi Chapter during the 1981-82 biennium. She had been in a nursing home in Fredericksburg for several years. Services for
Margaret Cross were held on December 29, 2003.
She was born in Quanah (Hardeman County), and graduated from Quanah
High School and North Texas State Teachers College.
She moved to Marble Falls in 1975 and had been a member of Delta Kappa
Gamma since 1979.
As an educator, she worked in many school districts including Abilene,
Marble Falls and Burnet in the special education program.
She had recently been active in the Texas Hill Country Foundation,
where she served as a board member, and in the Texas Department of
Mental Health and Mental Retardation. 2004Mildred Galyean passed away on November 26, 2004, at the age of 82 in Austin. Her younger years were spent on the West Ranch before she moved to Marble Falls where she attended school. She graduated from Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos and received her MEd from the University of Texas. She had taught in LaMarque, League City, Webster, Burnet and Marble Falls, and had been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma since 1991. She was married to Ray Galyean for 39 years until his death in 1995. 2006Johnnie Mae Wheeler
passed away on May 8, 2006, at the age of 85.
Johnnie Mae graduated from Bertram High School in 1937 and received a BA and MEd from the
University of Texas.
She taught in Jarrell for two years before beginning her 40-year career in Bertram where
she taught fifth grade and was an elementary principal.
Among her many accomplishments were Alder-woman and Mayor for the City of Bertram,
Burnet County Woman of the Year and Burnet County Citizen of the Year.
In 1992 she retired from the City of Bertram and had a park in downtown Bertram
named after her.
Johnnie Mae was initiated into Alpha Chi in 1972 and served as its President in the
1982 - 1984 biennium.
She was married to Charles Wheeler for 24 years until his death in 1971.
