MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES FOR EUDORA LITE
What's a Eudora personality? That's what Eudora calls its ability to support multiple e-mail accounts in its Pro (vs Lite) version. The account that is set up similarly to the Lite version setup is the dominant (and default) personality. Other accounts can be set up in the Pro version -- each additional account is a personality with its own nickname. Many people who have multiple e-mail addresses (e-mail boxes) upgrade to the Pro version simply to get the multiple personality capability. Note however, these multiple personalities share the In, Out, Trash and other user-created mailboxes in Eudora.
Here is a way that, in Windows 95, Eudora Lite can support multiple accounts/personalities. Two setups are given. The first setup will work like Eudora Pro -- all personalities share the In, Out, Trash and other user-created mailboxes. The second setup will provide a set of In, Out, Trash and other user-created mailboxes for each personality. If anyone needs specific instructions for Windows 3.xx, let me know (<k5jic@tstar.net>).
SHARED IN, OUT, TRASH AND OTHER USER-CREATED MAILBOXES
1. Go to the C:\EUDORA subdirectory or folder. Make multiple copies of EUDORA.INI each under a different file name, e.g., EUDORA01.INI, EUDORA02.INI,....., etc., one for each additional account/personality.
2. In the Eudora Lite Program Group (right-click on Start, click on Open | Programs | Eudora Lite), make a shortcut/icon for each additional account/personality. Edit the Target entry of each new shortcut/icon so that it reads:
C:\EUDORA\EUDORA.EXE EUDORAxx.INI (where xx corresponds to 01, 02, etc.). You do this by right-clicking on the original shortcut/icon. Then click on Properties and select the Shortcut tab. There you see the Target box that you edit. Click on OK when you finish editing the Target box.
3. At this point, the copies of shortcuts/icons are named the same as the original with a number suffix. On each one, right-click it, click on Rename, and give each one a new name reflecting the account it will support.
4. Bring up each new account/personality of Eudora (click on new shortcut/icon), click on Tool | Options, and change the setup to the new account.
5. Make copies of these shortcuts/icons as desired on the Desktop and/or Start Menu.

A SET OF IN, OUT, TRASH AND OTHER USER-CREATED MAILBOXES FOR EACH PERSONALITY
1. Go to the C:\EUDORA subdirectory or folder. Create a separate subdirectory/folder for each additional account/personality, e.g., C:\EUDORA\PERSON01, C:\EUDORA\PERSON02, ....., etc. Copy C:\EUDORA\EUDORA.INI into each of these new PERSONxx subdirectories/folders.
2. In the Eudora Lite Program Group (right-click on Start, click on Open | Programs | Eudora Lite), make a shortcut/icon for each additional account/personality. Edit the Target entry of each new shortcut/icon so that it reads:
C:\EUDORA\EUDORA.EXE C:\EUDORA\PERSONxx\EUDORA.INI (where xx corresponds to 01, 02, etc.).
Thanks to Butch Kemper of TStar for the key information that resulted in this tip.
Now you can enjoy your Eudora Lite with multiple e-mail accounts, with independent or shared In, Out, Trash and other user-created mailboxes.
P.S. The setup for separate sets of In, Out, Trash and other user-created mailboxes for each personality described above works for Eudora Pro, something that Eudora Pro cannot do by itself.
P.P.S. If you follow the setup for separate sets of In, Out, Trash and other user-created mailboxes, but put the EUDORA.INI file on a floppy drive, e.g., A:/, you can carry your personality(ies) with you on the floppy. On any other computer with Eudora, simply put your floppy disk in the floppy drive, go to the Windows Run line and enter c:\eudora\eudora.exe a:\eudora.ini. You could put that command line in a batch file on the floppy disk and name it eudora.bat. Then all you have to do is to enter a:\eudora.bat. on the Run line.
